Information:

Purpose
To provide homeowners tools to assess the vulnerability of their home to wildland fire and to encourage sound land-use planning, creative mitigation to reduce the occurrence of fire losses.

Objectives

  • Discuss the natural role of fire in land management;
  • Understand how to prevent home ignitions through the use of fire-resistant vegetation for landscaping purposes and fire-resistant building design.

Target Audiences
All stakeholders are invited and the focus of this meeting is on the homeowners. A general briefing is given on the basics of Firewise in Mississippi.

Why You Should Attend
Fire plays an important role in the natural management of forested habitats. As our communities develop into adjacent forests the risk of wildland fire increases. This event will enable participants to assess fire risks around their homes and empower them with information and skills to protect them from the risk of wildfire.

Instructor(s)
This course is taught by the Mississippi Forestry Commission Firewise Coordinator and /or MSU Extension Forestry Associates.

Cost
This workshop is free to the participant and is funded by the Wilkinson County Board of Supervisors through Public Law 110-343. Meal, refreshments and workshop materials will be provided. Class is limited to 50 participants.

Continuing Education Credits
This meeting carries continuing education credits for the following professional groups:

  • Registered Foresters receive 2 hours in Category II
  • Certified Loggers receive 2 hours in Category II
  • Realtors receive 3 hours of elective Real Estate Course Approval Code 10181

Emergency & Safety Consultants Inc. was founded by working Paramedics with over 30 years of ambulance, helicopter and military pre-hospital emergency medicine. Our computer based First Aid and CPR training was designed to be specific to the logging industry. It is a practical, no-nonsense approach to Basic First Aid and CPR. The main objective of this training is to provide you with the information and training to help someone with an emergency before Paramedics arrive.

This training has been designed in accordance with OSHA guidelines specific to the Logging Industry.

The Good Samaritan Law was adopted to protect individuals who assist anyone who is ill or injured without fear of legal prosecution. It was designed to encourage everyone to help someone in the event of an emergency.

Good Samaritan Principles

  • You must identify yourself and obtain permission to help someone who is injured.
  • By law, if a patient is unresponsive, you can provide first aid – this is implied consent.
  • You must provide care within your level of training, and continue until the arrival of Emergency Medical personnel.
  • Consent must be given by parent or guardian if the victim is under 18 years of age.
